Flexibility

1. One head (one parison)

  • The best repetitiveness in weight, thickness and distribution of material. Resulting in a lower weight dispersion (CPK value.)
  • The parison adjustments and color changes are performed in minimal time.  Reducing the material waste during the start-up.
  • Head maintenance and replacement of tooling are simplified, minimizing the time required.  A reduction in the power required for heating.
  • No electrostatic attraction between parisons to battle.

2. Energy Savings

Energy reduction is an industry priority.  Urola’s Wheel concept is a decisive way to achieve this objective.  Allowing for 30-40% savings in energy consumption compared to other systems.
The explanation is rather straight forward:

  • Molds placed in Wheel configuration which are opened mechanically by cam action.
  • Minimum energy to keep the inertia of the wheel rotating (4-7 kw).
  • Single-head design means only a single-head requires heat energy.
  • Single-head to control allows for consistent, lighter weight bottles.
    • Lighter weight bottles reduces the amount of plastic consumed.
    • Less plastic requires less heat energy to process.
  • Our extruder design offers precise control and lowest energy consumption in the industry.
  • These factors allow the achievement of ‘record’ low values of 250wh/kg.

3. Independent molds

  • Convenient interchangeability.
  • Minimized time for mold repair.
  • Independent mold clamping to assure the perfect mold closing.

4. Flexibility

  • Bottles with blown neck, from 2 oz to 2 qt (50ml-2L).
  • Bottles with calibrated neck, from 1 qt to 2.5 gal (1L-10L)
    • Both retain a minimum scrap ratio and do Not require a change of head.
  • Neck-to-Neck possible configuration.
  • Co-Extrusion option.
  • Capable to process a broad range of resins.
  • Mold changes typically 15 min per mold.

Less electric consumption

High speed production

Urola’s Wheel machines often allow savings of over $200,000 / year when compared to standard shuttle machines.

Wheel type blowers

The wheel concept for Extrusion Blow Molding is a Urola strength and expertise. Since 1980 these robust systems have proven themselves time and again. In some cases, continue to do so after more than 30 years in the field.
Urola’s wheels entail three platforms:

  • SWT series: All electric, needle blown, high volume, tangential.
  • M series: Electric / hydraulic, needle blown, lesser volume than SWT.
  • MSC series: Electric / hydraulic, calibrated neck blown, medium volume.

SWT series

Our new generation of wheel machine with tangential mold layout.  The molds themselves cut the parison.  Suitable for blown neck containers.

  • All Electric.
  • Needle blown necks.
  • Excellent parison control at high speeds.
  • Comprehensive control system, single interface; parison thickness regulator, visualize process parameters, rotating valve sequence adjustments and SPC.
  • Well suited for light weight containers with or without handles.
  • Neck-to-Neck (Option: N-t-N, 2-cavities per mold) containers up to 12 oz (350ml) yields double quantities.
  • Maximum number of molds; 30 single molds or 24 N-t-N.
  • Maximum output; 18,000 b/h single or 24,000 b/h N-t-N.
  • Co-Extrusion (Option) well suited for multi-layers.
  • Container transfer system to the integrated deflashing unit.
  • Trimming – Dome, impact, neck reaming or combination thereof.
  • Extruder – Advanced concept, excellent plasticization and reduction of energy.
  • High degree of sensors to enable an integrated control of the operation.

Raw material savings

A single head, regardless of the number of molds, allows maximum uniformity of the parison. This enables a narrow and lower range of container weight.

Low energy consumption

Minimal energy is required to maintain the wheel rotation and final mold clamping. A single head further reduces energy with fewer heaters for the extruder and head.

Parison consistency at high speed

The parison is always held within two adjacent molds. This allows high speed extrusion for lightweight containers while providing the highest degree of uniformity.

M series

The M series is characterized by having the molds radially placed in the wheel.  Well suited for blown neck containers up to 2 qt (2L) which require large quantities.  A high degree of flexibility permits the combination of different size containers, each with minimum scrap.

  • Needle blown necks.
  • Container capacity up to 2 qt (2L).
  • Comprehensive control system, single interface; parison thickness regulator, and visual process parameters.
  • Automated start-up.
  • Neck-to-Neck (Option: N-t-N, 2-cavities per mold) yields double quantities.
  • Maximum quantity of cavities; 12 single molds or 24 N-t-N.
  • Maximum output; 6,500 b/h single or 11,000 b/h N-t-N.
  • Co-Extrusion (Option) well suited for multi-layers.
  • Centralized lubrication system.
  • Container de-molding system (Option) for containers with deep bases.
  • Container transfer system to the integrated deflashing unit.
  • Trimming – Dome, impact, neck reaming or combination thereof.

MSC series

Unique in the market, this EBM wheel produces containers with Calibrated Necks.  For sizes up to 2.5 gal, this unit offers substantial flexibility for various container geometries.

  • Calibrated Necks.
  • Container capacity up to 2.5 gal (10L).
  • Comprehensive control system, single interface; parison thickness regulator, and visual process parameters.
  • Maximum number of molds; 6 (can operate with as few as 2 or 3.)
  • Maximum output; 1,600 b/h.

  • Centralized lubrication system.
  • Container transfer system to the integrated deflashing unit.
  • Deflashing unit – Single station impact trimming, requires minimal tooling.

LINEAR-SHUTTLE MACHINES

Urola’s complimentary line of Shuttle technology allows us to provide additional solutions for the customer’s container requirements. Notably for containers less than 2 oz (50ml) or greater than 2.5 gal (10L).

The URGM shuttle machines are completely electric, offering low energy consumption (avg 25% less than traditional hydraulic systems), as well as a compact footprint.  Recognized for minimal maintenance and ease of operation.

  • Single or Twin Station – all models.
  • Single or Multiple Heads – number of heads dependent on model and container dimensions.
  • Extruder speed is automatically adjusted to keep the parison length in harmony with the cycle time.
  • Bobbing Extruder. The extruder is equipped with AC motor driven screw with frequency-controlled speed regulation.
  • Parison thickness control system driven by efficient servoactuators.
  • Co-Extrusion (Option) well suited for multi-layers. Including view stripe.
